"Dear Carol....I loooooove your class. I have never taken an acting class before. It is not what I expected at all, and is challenging me in many ways, including spiritually. Really-who are we, which "character in real life" am I playing now? And who decides the action that I ultimately take? It's so much deeper and real than pretending something. Wow..."
-- Mark Suresh Schlanger, MBA
Learning to work "On the Breath" creates a joyful, reliable, physically based acting technique that gives rise to spontaneous, imaginative and exciting actors who draw their strength from the text through the breath.
Carol Fox Prescott, celebrated actor, director, master teacher, and performance coach brings 40 years of experience in professional theater to individuals of all walks of life, enabling breakthroughs in authenticity, personal growth, and creativity. Carol’s clients include professional actors, business leaders, clergy, doctors, artists and educators- anyone for whom presentation and self discovery are essential to success.
Using both exercises and scene study, Carol aims to promote these powerful techniques, based on breathing, for freeing and integrating the emotional, physical and vocal instruments of the actor to use when exploring all roles, enhancing the rehearsal process in classical theater, musical comedy, modern drama or film.
You will gain insight into and expand the following skills:
- Developing a character through sensitivity to the meaning, language, music and style of the text
- Deepening emotional expression
- Focusing, centering, grounding
- Acquiring professional work ethics and artistic discipline
- Transforming nerves, anxieties and stage fright into positive, creative energy
- Accessing entry into the unconscious, expanding the actor's imagination
- Experiencing the communal and spiritual aspects of the actor's art
"This breath-to-breath communication that operates well below the surface of the words we speak is a picture of the way in which we are intrinsically connected to one another, to the oneness of the universe, to the discovery that we are not separate, not alone, not other. It is a picture of life working. It is a picture of all the parts finding their place, moving with the flow of energy that brings us all together."
