To Reclaim the Future: CD
To Reclaim the Future - John O'Donohue Workshop CD - Click for bigger image
| From April 21 to 23, 2006, John O'Donohue led a captivating Miriam's Well workshop entitled "To Reclaim the Future." John O'Donohue is an Irish poet, author, and Catholic scholar who lives in the solitude of a cottage in the West of Ireland and speaks Gaelic as his daily language. His acclaimed writings reveal an original thinker rooted in an unorthodox blend of Irish heritage, German philosophy, western theology, and an intimate relationship with the wild, luminous landscape of his home.
O'Donohue says: "How strange it is that we cannot see time. Yet its invisible presence determines so much of our experience. For our ancestors, time had a rich variety. For a full life, it was crucial to read that structure and attune oneself to whatever the secret rhythm of a given occasion might be. For us, time is money, therefore, time is reduced to routine and stress which pervades everywhere like an unease. Stress is a perverted relationship to time. We suffer stress and it makes us homeless in time. We have fallen out of our own rhythm. Time no longer holds us kindly. This dislocation becomes hugely destructive when anxiety enters to collude with stress. Now we live in times utterly riven with anxiety. We have learned that from one moment to the next, without warning, anything can happen. Just underneath the surface of our frenetic lives, there is a spring that is wound tight; we find ourselves edgy and on the edge."
This workshop explores the theme of reclaiming the future using lecture, conversation, poetry, story and experiential exercises. Now via this audio CD, you can re-experience the workshop as it happened, or experience for the first time if you were unable to attend. |
